#*Season performances cancelled

Due to the significant flood damage to the Queensland Culture Centre, Queensland Ballet has been forced to cancel our upcoming season of Giselle which was due to open on 14 April in the Playhouse. QPAC has emailed all ticket holders to advise that their tickets will automatically be refunded.

We appreciate your understanding as our teams continue to navigate the ongoing impacts of the recent flooding, and come to terms with this devastating blow to our 2022 Season.

A supernatural tale of passion, vengeance, and the power of love

Experience love, envy, betrayal, and tragic redemption in the celebrated romantic ballet, Giselle. First performed in Paris, France in 1841, this Romantic-era masterpiece is set in an ethereal realm where vengeful spirits dance in the darkness, and love triangles can be deadly.

Young Giselle is a peasant girl in love with Duke Albrecht, who courts her in disguise as a peasant boy. Gamekeeper Hilarion is in love with Giselle and filled with jealousy. When he finds out the Duke is engaged to another, he reveals Albrecht's deception to Giselle. Devastated, she dies of a broken heart. Deep in the moonlit forest, Giselle emerges in the twilight world of the Wilis who rise from dusk ‘til dawn seeking vengeance among men. Giselle is faced with an impossible decision: will she follow the dark path of revenge or save her true love from certain death?

Staged by Ai-Gul Gaisina. With luminous costumes, an enchanting score, and exquisite choreography derived in the late 19th and early 20th century from of the original production by Jean Corelli and Jules Perrot by the world-renowned Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet in St Petersburg, Giselle has held audiences spellbound since its Parisian première more than 150 years ago.

The 12.30pm Friday 22 April performance features recorded music (no orchestra).

Learn about 'The Wilis' in Giselle from the dancers themselves

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
