History of the Academy of Queensland Ballet
The Academy is part of Queensland Ballet, founded in 1960 by Charles Lisner OBE. The Academy of Queensland Ballet was established to align with Queensland Ballet's vision to deliver world-class training programs to dancers in Queensland.

#Highlights in Our History
1953
Charles Lisner established the Lisner Ballet Academy.
1960
Lisner Ballet Company is formed, re-named the Queensland Ballet in 1961.
1982
Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) is established in partnership with Queensland Ballet and the Queensland Government’s Department of Education and Training.
2015
Building upon the legacy of Charles Lisner and QDSE, Queensland Ballet implemented its own training programs in order to meet a new artistic vision under the direction of Li Cunxin AO.
2016
Queensland Ballet consolidated its programs, creating the Academy of Queensland Ballet.
2020
The Academy of Queensland Ballet opens its state-of-the-art training facilities in Kelvin Grove.
2027
The Academy of Queensland Ballet relocates to the Thomas Dixon Centre, the home of Queensland Ballet - strengthening the link between world-class training and Company life.
