#A unique exploration of dance, art and music.

Experience a fusion of art, dance, and live music as Queensland Ballet Academy presents Soirée – a dazzling annual performance season in collaboration with Philip Bacon Galleries and in 2023, internationally-acclaimed artist Michael Zavros.

Renowned for his work depicting objects of fashion, beauty, and grandeur in hyper-realism style, Zavros is a leading Australian artist with pieces held in numerous public and private collections, including The National Gallery of Australia and Queensland Art Gallery. Soirée blends his stunning art with original neo-classical and contemporary choreography by Paul Boyd and Natalie Weir, performed by Queensland Ballet Academy’s Pre-Professional Program dancers to live music onstage by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.

This standout season also includes the Academy’s Grand Défilé, showcasing seven levels of our students onstage in a beautiful presentation, as well as selected choreographic works by the Pre-Professional Program dancers.

Presented at the Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre, this event promises an extraordinary showcase of Australian art, Australian choreographers, and Australia’s emerging dance talent in what has become a highlight of the Brisbane arts scene.

Soirée presents a unique opportunity to nurture the futures of our dancers. Learn how you can support this project here.

Queensland Ballet Academy gratefully acknowledges Philip Bacon AO for his generous support of this unique artistic collaboration.

Our thanks also to Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, for enriching this stunning performance season with live music.

“I think the themes of beauty, fashion, and vanity perfectly segue into ballet choreography. Ballet is synonymous with beauty and costume, and when I think of vanity, I’m reminded of the mirror images throughout ballet – in rehearsal and onstage, and even how the dancers are reflected on the floor. I was thrilled by the works Paul and Natalie choreographed in 2021’s Summer Soirée, and I can’t wait to see the new pieces created for this year’s season. It’s such a wonderful compliment to see the young dancers of the Academy responding to my work.”

#Backstage

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
