Educational Pathways
The Academy of Queensland Ballet supports students to pursue intensive dance training alongside a range of flexible and high-quality education options during their senior academic years (Years 10 - 12).
#Balancing Academics and Professional Training
We recognise the importance of maintaining academic progress while undertaking pre-professional dance training. As students move into Academic Years 10 – 12, they can choose from a variety of education pathways that best suit their individual needs, goals, and circumstances.
Students may engage in face-to-face schooling, distance education, vocational pathways, or a combination of these options. These pathways enable students to successfully balance the demands of professional training with their academic commitments.
Kelvin Grove State College remains one option within this suite of pathways, offering a structured environment where students can combine academic study with training in a shared location. However, it is not the only pathway, and students are supported to select the option that best aligns with their academic and personal goals.
#Flexible Education Options
For senior students, educational options may include:
Distance education
Including programs such as Cairns School of Distance Education
Face-to-face schooling
Including participation in partner school programs such as Kelvin Grove State College
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Through TAFE or other registered training organisations
Work-integrated or flexible learning arrangements
Where appropriate
#Senior Certification Pathways
During Academic Years 10 – 12, students may work towards:
- A Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- An Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) (where applicable)
- Vocational qualifications and VET certificates contributing to QCE attainment
The Academy Program holds recognition from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), enabling students to gain credit towards their QCE through their training program.
#Graduate Outcomes
On completion of their studies and training, graduates may receive:
- A Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) (where requirements are met)
- An ATAR score (if eligible)
- A Statement of Attainment endorsed by Queensland Ballet and the Department of Education
This flexible model ensures students are well-prepared for a range of future pathways, whether in dance, further study, or vocational careers.
