#About

In partnership with Kelvin Grove State College, the Academy of Queensland Ballet offers assistance to students in Academic Years 10 to 12 who need to live away from home whilst enrolled in the Upper School Program to find safe and suitable family accommodation in Brisbane. Where possible, the Academy will help connect its students with a College-registered homestay provider but placement cannot be guaranteed.

Benefits

By being a part of the Homestay Program, host families provide an invaluable experience to intra- and interstate students. By sharing their family environment, hosts support the growth and development of students who would not otherwise be able to attend the Academy.

Students enrolled in the Upper School (Levels 3-1) may apply for the Homestay Program, run in collaboration between Queensland Ballet Academy and Kelvin Grove State College.

The Homestay Program provides accommodation for intrastate/interstate/international students, with a local family, providing a supportive home for our students during school term time. Specific meetings are available for Homestay students throughout the year to check in on their wellbeing and to encourage connection in their new environment.

#Expectations of a Homestay Host

With the Homestay Program, hosts provide:

  • A furnished room, access to household facilities, and three nutritious meals per day.
  • Supervision of the homestay student as if they were their own child.
  • Assistance in supporting the student’s attendance at the Academy and the College, including participation in events, excursions, and performances.
  • A respectful and harmonious household environment.

#Expectations of a Homestay Student

With the Homestay Program, students are expected to:

  • Gain an understanding of and respect the host family’s routines, rules, and expectations around internet and technology use, bedtime, curfews, cleaning of communal spaces, chores, and contributions to the family environment.
  • Partake in family and/or everyday activities to help settle into life in Brisbane.
  • Keep their bedroom and bathroom area clean and tidy.
  • Regularly engage and communicate with their host family to foster a harmonious relationship.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
