Academy Homestay Program
#About
In partnership with Kelvin Grove State College, the Academy helps students in Academic Years 10 – 12 find safe and suitable family accommodation in Brisbane. Where possible, students enrolled in the Academy Program (Levels 3 – 1) and at Kelvin Grove State College will be connected with a College-registered homestay provider but placement cannot be guaranteed.
Benefits
The Academy Homestay Program provides accommodation for intra- and interstate students with a local, supportive family during the school term. Hosts support the growth and development of students by sharing their family environment with students who would not otherwise be able to attend the Academy.
To be eligible, students must be enrolled in the Academy Program (Levels 3 – 1) and be in Academic Years 10 – 12 at Kelvin Grove State College. Throughout the year, specific meetings are available for Homestay students to check-in on their wellbeing and to encourage connection in their new environment.
#Expectations of a Homestay Host
With the Academy Homestay Program, hosts provide:
- A furnished room, access to household facilities, and three nutritious meals per day.
- Supervision of the homestay student as if they were their own child.
- Assistance in supporting the student’s attendance at the Academy and the College, including participation in events, excursions, and performances.
- A respectful and harmonious household environment
#Expectations of a Homestay Student
With the Academy Homestay Program, students are expected to:
- Partake in family and/or everyday activities to help settle into the Brisbane life.
- Keep their bedroom and bathroom area clean and tidy.
- Gain an understanding of and respect for the host family’s routines, rules, and expectations around chores, cleaning of communal spaces, bedtime, technology use, and contributions to the family environment.
- Regularly engage and communicate with their host family to foster a harmonious relationship.
