Lower School Program Mid-Year Demonstration

The Academy of Queensland Ballet

#An intimate in-studio presentation displaying the artistic and technical development of our Lower School students.

The Academy Mid‑Year Demonstration offers audiences a rare opportunity to step inside the professional training environment of the Academy of Queensland Ballet.

Rather than a traditional performance, the demonstration showcases classwork and selected repertoire excerpts from across the Academy’s programs and the recent Semester One examinations. Doing so highlights the daily training, discipline, and artistic development of students partway through their year. Audiences will see how technique is built and refined, with demonstrations spanning classical ballet and contemporary and historical dance, alongside excerpts from repertoire studied during the Semester. Most of the presentations will be accompanied by live music, just as students experience in their daily lessons.

Designed to be informative and engaging, the Mid‑Year Demonstration allows families, supporters and the wider community to gain insight into the Academy’s teaching methods and the progression of students at different stages of their training. It reflects the Academy’s commitment to excellence, transparency in training, and the development of the next generation of professional dancers.

We hope you will join us to enjoy the work of our dedicated young dancers.

Presentation performed to live piano accompaniment and recorded music.

Our Lower School program is designed for students in academic years 7 – 9. The program combines a half-day of professional ballet training at the Academy of Queensland Ballet and a half-day of academic studies at Kelvin Grove State College. This professional training program is comprehensively designed to develop students’ skills to the highest artistic and technical standards, offering initial preparation to transition into our Upper School and Pre-Professional Program, and later, a career in a professional ballet or dance company.

End of Year Demonstration

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
