Academy Auditions

Queensland Ballet Academy is passionate about developing the artists of the future, providing a clear career pathway through intensive training, to develop and nurture young dancers whose talent and ability are internationally sought-after.

Auditions for our Pre-Professional Program, Upper and Lower Schools, and Guest Academy Program, are held annually in the later half of the year, for the following year's intake.

#The Audition Process


Entry to all Academy programs is by invitation or audition. Each audition is an open ballet class and contemporary class*, this may be followed by a call-back. Applicants are not required to pre-prepare any material, although some applicants may be required to undertake an interview.

*For Upper and Lower School Levels 1 & 2 / years 11 & 12 and Transitional Course applicants only.

Auditions for the Guest Academy Program will be held via video audition submission only. 


#Foundation Program

Levels 9-7 / Academic Years 3-6


Auditions for the Foundation Program Semester 2 2022 has now passed. The audition for enrolment into Semester 1 2023 will be held on Monday 21st November 2022.

The first point of entry into the Queensland Ballet Academy's professional training pathway, the Foundation Program will see boys and girls from 8-11 years old enjoy an introduction to professional ballet training.

  • Audition fee: $25 (inc. GST)

#Guest Academy Program

Levels 6-4 / Academic Years 7-9


Audition: Via video audition submission only

Submissions for 2023 close 3 November


The Guest Academy Program provides a unique, world-class training opportunity for ballet students based outside the Brisbane metropolitan area. These areas may include the wider South East Queensland area, intrastate / interstate or international locations.

Application requirements:

  • Applicant & parent/carer details
  • Current headshot and full-length image (please see FAQs section for example images)
  • Audition fee: $125 (inc. GST)

#Upper and Lower School

Levels 6-1 / Academic Years 7-12


QLD auditions:

  • Brisbane (Upper and Lower School) 27th August
    Venue: Queensland Ballet Academy, Gate 1, 101 L'Estrange Terrace, Kelvin Grove QLD

Audition registrations for 2023 close 15 August


Interstate auditions:

  • Melbourne (Upper School) 21st August*
    Venue: Melbourne Academy of Arts, 74 herald St, Cheltenham VIC
  • Sydney (Upper School) 4th September*
    Venue: The McDonald College, 17 George St, North Strathfield NSW

*These auditions are run as part of our Elite Training Series event. Audition applicants may choose to attend the audition only, or participate in the entire event. For further information please read more about the Sydney and Melbourne Elite Training Series events.


The Upper and Lower Schools are comprehensively designed to help develop students' skills to the highest artistic and technical standards. Students enrolled in this program enjoy the privilege and benefit of working within a professional environment to prepare them for a career in ballet or dance.

    Venue: The Australian Conservatoire of Ballet, 4/2 Bromham Place, Richmond VIC

Audition registrations for 2023 close 19 August 2022


Queensland Ballet Academy’s Pre-Professional Program is a full-time final year training program providing students with the preparation and training they require before joining a professional ballet company.

Audition requirements:

  • Applicant & parent/carer (if auditionee is under 18) details
  • Current headshot and full-length image (please see FAQs section for example images)
  • Audition fee: $125 (inc. GST)

#Jette Parker Young Artist and Company Auditions


Queensland Ballet audition registrations for apprenticeship and company positions can be accessed on the company auditions webpage. Applicants wishing to apply for both the Pre-Professional Program and Jette Parker Young Artist Program please complete both the Company and Pre-Professional audition registrations.

Company auditions

#Academy International Auditions


International applicants for the Upper and Lower School and Pre-Professional Program may submit a video audition as the first stage in the application process for these programs. Please email academy@queensland.com.au for further information on Queensland Ballet Academy's video audition requirements.
