Queensland Ballet Academy collaborates with Tim Storrier for Summer Soirée
Queensland Ballet Academy presents Summer Soirée, a sophisticated performance experience combining dance, art and music in collaboration with Philip Bacon Galleries and renowned Australian Fine Artist, Tim Storrier AM.
Artistically stimulating and exclusively chic, this unique event will be a stunning fusion of Storriers’ work with choreography performed by the rising stars of the Queensland Ballet Academy and music played by Camerata, Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
Artistic Director Li Cunxin AO said he is excited to be bringing back Summer Soirée in collaboration with Philip Bacon Galleries for a second season.
“The vision behind Summer Soirée has always been about collaboration across different mediums – art, music, and dance – providing a unique platform for our next generation of young dancers, who are on the cusp of their careers.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to be partnering with other artists, and I look forward to seeing what grows out of this collaboration,” said Mr Li.
Australian Fine Artist and Archibald prize winner, Tim Storrier AM has had artwork collected by all major Australian art museums, and international galleries, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris.
Storrier said he first heard about Queensland Ballet’s Summer Soirée through Philip Bacon Galleries his commercial art dealer in Brisbane.
“I agreed to sign on to this collaboration because I trust Philip and I was greatly pleased to meet Li. Plus, it’s a challenge which can be quite invigorating to respond to,” Storrier said.
Summer Soirée will include original neo-classical and contemporary pieces inspired by the works of Storrier with choreography by Paul Boyd, Louise Deleur and Natalie Weir.
“There will be three different choreographers with three different artworks. It’s all rather exciting to see what they do with the work itself because the medium of course is very different; ballet uses the human body like an artist uses a paintbrush,” Storrier said.
Queensland Ballet Academy Director, Christian Tátchev said this collaboration with Storrier will be an invaluable experience for the students.
“Summer Soirée is a highlight of the Queensland Ballet Academy each year thanks to our ongoing creative partnership with Philip Bacon Galleries.
“We are thrilled to give our dancers the opportunity to be a part of this year’s event; working with and being inspired by Tim’s artwork. I know the students will cherish this experience for years to come.
“All proceeds from this annual fundraising event will enable our Academy to continue to nurture emerging young dancers and further encourage their creativity,” added Mr Tátchev.
An extraordinary showcase of Australian art, Australian choreographers and Australia’s emerging dance talent, Summer Soirée promises to offer a classy, uniquely Australian event.
